Did PT Anderson win an Oscar for direction.I love this movie, in fact , i love all of his movies but this is my favorite. There something about it, the colour and pace of the story that immediately draws me inside the world of Sandlers character. Anybody who has trouble liking the movies is probably beyond saving, they most likely go to the cinema for some pop corn and coke, but thats ok too.

i honestly thought the movie had some of the best qualities a film could have. it was powerful, regardless of what anyone else says. when the credits started to roll i had the best feeling, and a smile quickly ran across my face, with joy. it was one of those movies you wanted to end but you needed a good ending and thankfully(spoiler), the movie had a fantastic ending. i loved it though really. adam sandler did a fantastic job as barry and phillip seymour hoffman was cool for his little part.

emily watson also surprised me in this movie, i had seen her in red dragon and didn't care for her much but after seeing this i had a whole new thought. the movie was dark, and it won't be LOVED by everyone, but anyone with at least a 2.5 grade point average from high school can clearly see the movie was probably not that easy to make, and that the story line came together great. i hope more people see this movie and get to enjoy it for whats its worth. FANTASTIC FILM 4/4 stars.

Sandler is a fantastic actor, as is proven by this movie. Too bad he is too lazy to put in the time to do any quality films. Instead he just does shitty movies like "I Know Pronounce You Chuck and Larry" and "You Don't Mess With The Zohan". He has the skills to win an Academy Award, but he's just not interested in anything like that.

I totally agree. This is PTA's magical and transcendent film. As good as some of his others are (There Will Be Blood is very strong) this is the only one that explodes with so much passion and emotion that it has a life of its own.

You have to be smart to like a film like this, boogie night, magnolia, and the other films by this writer-director. You can't just say it's stupid because you don't get it.

What you don't understand is that this movie is not about the storyline. It's abot the style, the visuals. This movie is very clearly influenced by the French filmmaker from the 60s Jean-Luc Godard, whose scripts were always bizarre, random, unexpected, nonsensical (if you constrain yourself to think only in terms of classic, established conventions). His STYLE and INNOVATION with editing, lighting, cinematography, and the medium itself is what made him the most influential post-WW2 director.

You don't need to be intelligent to like any film, you need to be able to appreciate the particular school of style that comes with the various movements and techniques of the film, which I personally believe is a waste of time. It just seems to be pretentious stylists trying to upstage each other. Not that this movie was bad, it was actually pretty good, but not because the director tried to mirror some other director.

He was amazing in this but I'm afraid his other 'comedies' are dire. I think he's in a comfort zone, dong the same thing all the time. This was probably the high point of his career.

This movie was just so exceptionally touching to me on many different levels. The title is perfect for the kind of love that it shows. Real people are lonely, and when they find love it is one of the most incredible forces in their lives.

Is it a pretentious competition or an homage to a great director? In don't see an upstaging in this film but I do see admiration of a great film making style. In either case, love film for the sake of film not the director...whatever his intentions may be. At least that is how I get by.

Adam Sandler was amazing in this movie. I'm a huge Sandler fan through it all (yes, I even paid to see Lil Nicky..lol) But he plays this character SO well..you can feel the emotion jumping off the screen at you.
