Despite his undeniably great vocal abilities this haunting melody is too delicate a vehicle for his powerful tenor. Pavarotti is much better known and promoted nowadays but the version of this familiar song by the great Jussi Bjorling is more befitting the true character of the piece.

i don't think the pronunciation really matters if you already know what the lyrics are. Just enjoy the music and let it sway you, he has such an amazing voice that it would be a shame to put this performance down because of pronunciation even though the piece itself was composed in France anyway

I can agree with you that his pronunciation was a little rough that is because he is not fluent in english. He just did it in a different style of his own. None the less he was AMAZING and had one of the most beautiful voices of this century! RIP.

Thank you for posting - he was one of the great voices of our lifetime - and a complete gentleman too. I met him over 30 years ago - will never forget it. God Bless his memory.

If you pronounce your English words as terribly as you butcher them when writing them then your pronunciation must blow... You obviously didnt pass your English class with flying colors, to say the least. And how is those arguments you are making to defend his lack of good pronunciation are the arguments a loser would use a valid point? We could easily say the same in the way of your own defense.
