BBC Bookmark follows JG Ballard from Shepperton to Shanghai and back, looking at the scenes of his life which inspired his autobiographical novels. This is a BBC original production which aired in 1991, directed by James Runcie. It chronicles J.G. Ballard's first trip to Shanghai after he first left it in 1946. He discusses his ilfe and his work especially his two autobiographical novels, _Empire of the Sun_ and _The Kindness of Women_.

| If you have not had a pleasure to listen to the audiobook of J.G. Ballard's "Empire of the Sun" read by Jeremy Irons (only him, no-one else!), I can recommend it to all! It is shortened version of the novel, but the point is Jeremy Irons' voice that mesmerised me. Since then I have tried to find it from the bookshops from SF to London to Tokyo but could not find it ... |
