Valse Triste is a sad valse that Jean Sibelius composed in 1904 for a drama of "Kuolema" "Death". Sibelius sold this work at a cheap price and never thought that this would be a hit soon. His small pieces are in my opinion the most beautiful; f.e. Romance, Berceuse, Impromptu, Rondino, Humoresque...

Je partage ce commentaire. Je ne connait aucune autre musique qui donne une pareille sensation de la mort. Ma pauvre maman , morte à 102 ans, frédonnait ce motif s'il y avait une dispute avec moi et du coup je me sentait terriblement coupable.

Ma version italienne de Wikipedia note que pour certains de ses collegues sa musique n'était pas "assez complexe"!!. Mais cela est justement le secret de l'ensorcellement, du rêve transmis par son oeuvre :aucune autre donne un sens pareil, le frisson, la mélancolie d'une mort imminente.

Masterfully done, the conductor reminds me of Putin. His expressions are wonderful. Adds so much to the performance! The Sibelius piece is hauntingly beautiful. Captures the essence of the Kaleva and the Finnish wilderness of an earlier era.
