You don't need to touch gloves, its your choice to touch and it just shows general respect. If you go to touch gloves after the bell has rung to start the match, then you are legally allowed to punch your opponent :P

well in tkd you never touch gloves, and you see him bowing b4 he kicked. it was just different customs and ways of doing thing. if you DID need to touch gloves then the referee would've said so b4 the two went to their corners. but the guy in black looked as if he was going in to touch gloves. so i guess you could call this a fluke
